Fog Eel catch checklist

  1. Go to the Lakefront

Use the Lakefront fishing interaction. The checked full-release fish entry and community table agree on this area [1][2].

  2. Check the rod’s bait

Select Use on a documented fishing rod to inspect or change its bait, then load a Leech. Worms belong to other Lakefront catches; they are not the recorded Fog Eel route [1].

  3. Fish more than once

Leech bait adds the correct catch route, but other eligible catches can still appear. Bring several Leeches rather than reading one failed cast as a broken quest.

  4. Keep the fish if a task asks for it

Check the active journal step before cooking, selling, or gifting the catch. This page answers location and bait; it does not assume which task is active in your save.

Was the Fog Eel bug fixed?

On September 3, a player reported spending about 100 Leeches without a Fog Eel. Developer Chris Cote replied that the current build had a bug affecting fish that required specific bait and said it should be fixed in the next update [3].

That thread predates the September 10 full release. The later Demo changelog recorded a bait-rate correction for bait-exclusive fish, and the September 18 v1.0.1 announcement separately says the Fog Eel appearance rate was increased [4]. The old thread therefore explains outdated advice; it is not proof that every current dry streak is the same bug.

Still no Fog Eel?

Confirm Lakefront + Leech, check that Steam has installed the latest available build, then try multiple casts. If the fish remains absent across a meaningful set of Leech casts, report the game version, rod, bait, area, and approximate number of attempts. Do not alter save files or claim a guaranteed catch rate—the checked sources provide none.
